Shawn Kasserman

Shawn Kasserman is a leading Chicago personal injury attorney with nearly 30 years of experience. As the grandson of Illinois Appellate Court Justice George Kasserman, he developed a respect for the law at an early age. While attending the DePaul College of Law, he worked as a law clerk for the trial lawyer Philip H. Corboy, and after receiving his J.D., he was hired as an associate and eventually became a partner at the Chicago law firm of Corboy and Demetrio. After serving as a trial lawyer at that firm for 23 years, he co-founded the firm of Tomasik Kotin Kasserman. He works to represent clients who have been catastrophically injured or killed due to negligence.

Shawn has been an active member of the Illinois State Bar Association since 1990. He is a current member of the Board of Governors and was elected as Treasurer of the Board of Governors for 2019-2020. He is the Past President of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Bar Foundation, having served as First Vice President and Second Vice President. He served as Chair of the ISBA Young Lawyers Division in 1997-1998.

In addition to his work with the ISBA, Mr. Kasserman is also an active member of the DuPage County Bar Association. He served on the DCBA Civil Procedure Committee in 1995-1996 and the DCBA Publications Board in 2010-2011, and he served as the General Counsel of the DCBA in 2016. He has been an active member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association since 1991, and he has served on the ITLA Board of Managers since 2008. He is currently a member of the ITLA Executive Committee. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, which is limited to 1% of lawyers in Illinois, and Vice Chair of the Illinois-Upstate Committee (2019-2020).

Community Involvement

Shawn Kasserman is dedicated to giving back to the community. He serves as President of the Board of Directors of Kids In Danger (KID), a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting children by fighting for product safety. KID's mission is to save lives by enhancing transparency and accountability through safer product development, better education, and stronger advocacy for children. He also serves on the board of the Lawndale Christian Legal Center (LCLC), which provides legal support and social services to justice-involved youth in the community of North Lawndale, Chicago. The LCLC works to help young people who are disproportionately arrested, prosecuted, and incarcerated by virtue of their race, socioeconomic status, and geography and give them the opportunity to build productive and healthy lives.
